PACKING TIPS FOR YOUR STORED GOODS

q  Take special care when packing dishes, glassware, and mirrors.  Dishes and glassware should be packed individually with a layer of packing material on the bottom, top and sides.  Mirrors should be packed in individual cardboard and taped on sides to prevent breakage.

q  Mattresses should be wrapped in plastic.  Do not lean unwrapped mattresses on walls or directly on floors this can cause moisture to accumulate on your mattress.

q  Defrost refrigerators and leave the door ajar, a box of baking soda is great to place inside.

q  Label all boxes on the outside for content.  This will make finding and unpacking much easier.

q  Seal boxes with packing tape.

q  Place items that you might need to use close to the door for easy access.

q  Store musical instruments, antiques, art objects and electronic equipment in climate controlled units.

q  Protect your possessions by making sure everything is packed securely.

q  Boxes, plastic bags, or clothing bags are advisable for clothes.

q  Rubbing a light coat of oil will retard rust from forming on metal surfaces.

q  Place a dryer sheet in Dressers and Chest of Drawers.  Do not close the drawers completely so they can expand and shrink with temperatures without warping the drawers

q  Place a dryer sheet in bags, boxes or containers where your linens, towels clothes or shoes are stored.  Spiders and bugs do not like the smell of dryer sheets.

q  Keep all items off the floor, if possible.  Skids/pallets will allow air to flow between stored items and the floor preventing moisture which results in mold and mildew.

q  Spray furniture with polish and cover with a drop cloth or sheeting to protect the wood finish.
